Our Story

A place to begin again.

Ɛdan is more than a guesthouse — it's a gathering place, a creative lab, and a home for people who believe in better ways of living, working and building together.

01 / The Beginning

Every home
has a story.

Ɛdan's journey has been shaped by the challenges of finding a place to call home in Accra. What began as a search for somewhere to belong became an opportunity to imagine what a home could be.

This house had a life before Ɛdan. Its unusual layout, its rooms and the traces left behind held stories of the people who had lived here. We began to see its character not as something to erase, but as something to build upon.

The house became the beginning of a new story — one shaped by the people who pass through it and the foundations on which communities grow.

02 / Reimagining the Space

Making room
for possibility.

Reimagining the house meant looking beyond what it was and thinking about what it could become. The process involved removing parts of the exterior cladding and reconsidering how the building could better serve the people who would use it.

Outside, the garden offered its own possibilities. Plantain, bananas, noni and wildflowers became part of a living landscape — a reminder that growth takes time and that a space can be productive, generous and alive.

The work also draws inspiration from Nyaniba and Elizabeth Nyaniba, and from the possibilities created when women have the space and resources to shape their own economic futures.

03 / Rooted in Community

A space that
brings us together.

What made us stay was more than the building. It was the garden, the light, the people and the stories that began to gather here.

Ɛdan grew from the idea that a home can be more than a place to stay. It can be a meeting point for different perspectives, a place to experiment with ideas and a space where creativity can contribute to the life of the city around it.

We see Ɛdan as an ongoing work — shaped by the people who visit, the relationships that form and the ideas that continue to grow here.

And so Ɛdan began — not just as a space, but as a promise.
